Due to the continued presence of COVID-19 and the hubbub of holiday travel, we understand that some people may want to keep their creations closer to home. Further instruction is in the entry form.
Yes! You are welcome to collaborate. Just circle "Team Entry" on your entry form.
Just like years past, the theme of your creation is up to you. You are welcome and encouraged to think outside the box and uniquely design your entry for the 2022 competition.
We require that your creation as a whole be at least 75% edible. Your main structure must be at least 50% gingerbread. Your base is considered separate and should be made of plywood. Further instructions are in the entry form.

It’s kind of a scarred-up place. We like Magpie Valley because it's pretty isolated and that’s why it’s free to be just what it is, wild and free. Antelope are at home here. We've seen mountain lion tracks, so I guess they know where to get wild and free food. Right...
Show, not just tell. (A startling image above, isn't it. Innocent clean little blonde and those dirty pigs. Both drinking water.) We sure did not expect anything this vibrant and entertaining when we decided to head to Amidon, North Dakota. So, this Slope County...
How does Slope County, the least populated county in the state, put on such a big event? It's a community thing. Very authentic. The kind we like. And we have a few photos here to show you. You won't see a lot of food trucks and big vendors from out of the region....

1. Go When It's Green Now's the time hike the National Park After a couple of exceptionally dry years, the Badlands are lookin' pretty good this time of year. That makes it an exceptionally beautiful time to hike the National Park interior. Theodore Roosevelt...
See How it is Unusual and Impressive For this Iowa farm boy, the extreme landscape of the northern tip of the Badlands was impacting. It was my first trail ride in the Little Missouri State Park. Fortunately, the horse I rode was well trained and handled the narrow...
This Weekend This weekend, June 17-19, 2022 is the biggest event at Fort Union. It's the Fort Union Rendezvous. Trappers and traders from all over Canada and the US descend on the historic site, much like they did in 1830. Fort Union Trading Post was not a military...
Here's a good way to get out and do something you probably haven't done since you were a kid -- go fly a kite at the Kite Fest at Tobacco Gardens. The weather is cooperating and the crowds are headed to...
Return to the Little Missouri Recreation Area When we last saw the Little Missouri Recreation Area, it was a promising grassy area with boat trailers backed up, waiting to reconnect with their fishing boats. That story is here. Since then, it's apparent; Dunn...
