Badlands places you won't believe When is the last time you were able to shrug off the pressures of 2020? You can in 2021 -- especially at one of these Badlands places you won't believe in North Dakota. A quiet moment along the Little Missouri River Your mind and...
“Man! That was a good hike!” We said it at almost the same moment. It was our goal to get a enormous supply of fresh air, sunshine and exercise in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park as soon as weather allowed. Caprock Coulee was the place to do it. Sure, if we could...
Herd of cows? I remember the first time I saw longhorn cattle at the north unit of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I was flummoxed, then, and for a long time after. “What’s a bunch of cows doing here?” I asked. It seemed like a North Dakota thing to do....

The Bridge to the Calypso Trail in the Terry Badlands As we wrote a few days ago (click here), the North Dakota Badlands has two counterparts to make a Badlands Trio, both in Montana. Besides the rock formations, they also have one other thing in common:...
Don't isolate this winter -- explore the outdoors! (See for yourself. Enjoy the winter photos.) Wow! Social critters like humans find it tough to isolate. I’m fed up with the upheaval in normal social functions. I miss the life that used to characterize the Northern...
Beyond the Beautiful Badlands of North Dakota --The Badlands Trio I’ll admit I was surprised to find two siblings of the North Dakota Badlands, making a rugged set of triplets we call The Badlands Trio. I thought the gnarly layered photogenic Badlands of North Dakota...
