February is for Sweethearts in the Beautiful Badlands
February is a welcome month in the badlands. It’s short. And it’s the last full month of winter. But, it’s more! February is all about chocolates and cherries and sweethearts.
Badlands Cookbooks
Two of our favorite, staple cookbooks are right out of the Beautiful Badlands. They feature many tempting recipes filled with chocolate or cherries, perfect for a Valentine surprise.
North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame Cookbook
A cookbook we definitely recommend is available from the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame in Medora, North Dakota. In it you’ll find some great recipes for chocolate treats for your sweetheart.
Watford City Centennial Celebration Cookbook
The Watford City Centennial committee produced an extensive cookbook for its 100 year celebration in 2014. These recipes center on cherries are next on our list of sweet treats to make! Inquire about this cookbook at the Long X Trading Post Visitor Center/Pioneer Museum of McKenzie County.
More Chocolate and Cherries, from North Dakota’s “east coast” area
The Red River Valley (of North Dakota, not Texas) boasts one of the trendiest food authorities around. Molly Yeh. In her fascinating book, Molly on the Range, she features some luscious chocolate delights!
Purchase her recipe book here: “recipes and stories from an unlikely life on a farm”. Recipes such as Mum’s Schnapps Brownies, Dark Chocolate Marzipan Scone Loaf, and Chocolate Cake with Rosemary Buttercream are at the top of our chocolate fever list!
The Ultimate Brownie Recipe
It’s hard to beat this brownie recipe from the Tara Teaspoon blog. We think the frosting recipe is ultimate, too! In fact, you’ll find a special section of Valentines Day recipes from Tara here, Valentines Day Recipes from Tara Teaspoon.
Make sure you check out the Tara Teaspoon Facebook Page. Brownies are featured there for February!
